Where to Grab a Margarita in Delco

Today (2/22) is National Margarita Day, but Delco fam, you'll want to bookmark this list to have on hand no matter what day of the year it is.

The margarita is a beloved cocktail. Jimmy Buffett built an empire dedicated to this drink. The citrusy beverage can inspire fun in the sun, and after you have more than one, things can escalate quickly ("Give me one margarita..."). It can be made in an infinite number of varieties and flavors: salt or sugar rim, frozen or on the rocks, spicy or fruity or tangy or sweet.

We're lucky in the Philadelphia region to have a lot of authentic Mexican spots to eat and drink at. Today, we're showcasing where you can go in Delaware County for a dose of lime. We picked a few spots in Deee-eeeel-coooo for you to hit at happy hour for some tequila time.

If you want to make your own at home (bonus: no designated driver required!) here's a recipe for a classic margarita that you can whip up in your kitchen, poolside, or wherever else you want to bring the party.

Ingredients:
2 ounces of tequila (or more if it's the weekend)
1/2 ounce of triple sec or Cointreau
1 ounce of lime juice (fresh squeezed is best!)
1/2 ounce of agave syrup (adjust to taste)
Optional Flavors to mix in: 1 ounce of grapefruit juice, strawberry preserves, pomegranate juice or mango puree
Optional Garnish: lime wheel, kosher salt

Make your margarita: Add all of the liquid ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and shake it all up until it's well-chilled. Strain your drink into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wheel and kosher salt on the rim of your glass. Feel free to use sugar instead of salt, or leave your rim bare!

El Limon has multiple locations, including one in Morton, PA. There, you can get a complimentary margarita whenever you dine in. That's right, a FREE margarita to go with your chips and guac! It's a perfect pairing.

At Hidalgo in Media, you bring your favorite tequila to them. They'll mix it up in their virgin margarita mix. Boom, your drink is instantly customized to your preferred taste. You could try using reposado tequila instead of blanco.

This Delco pub in Broomall has plenty of drink options. The Pomegranate Margarita on their specialty cocktail menu is the one that caught our eye. Catch their special flavors (like the Watermelon Marg below) on Instagram. Plus: they're a Best of Philly 2022 winner!

Every Monday is Margarita Monday at Rey Azteca in Newtown Square. Get it on the rocks or frozen! They also offer marg specials on Wednesdays. Make it spicy by adding jalepenos to your drink, or summon your inner demons with the Black Margarita.
