Billy Joel is one of music’s most successful singer-songwriters of all time. Selling over 160 million albums worldwide, he’s been the soundtrack for generations of people. Having over 30 top-40 hits certainly doesn’t hurt matters either.
Seriously, Joel’s list of accolades is just incredible. He’s received multiple honorary doctorates from some very prestigious schools, Among them are Berklee College of Music, Syracuse University, and the Manhattan School of Music. Joel’s received many honors for his overall career are the Kennedy Center Honors and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Joel even has his own banners hanging up in multiple arenas in the United States, honoring his many sold-out shows at those venues.
Of course, when you talk about Joel and venues, you have to talk about Madison Square Garden. Joel made history with the announcement of his residency at the famed New York arena. The Piano Man promised to play one show a month at MSG so long as there was demand. His first show was in January 2014, and it is set to wrap in July 2024. That July show will be Joel’s 150th performance at Madison Square Garden.
Between his MSG residency winding down and his ongoing shows with Stevie Nicks, it felt like a good time to share some of our favorite Billy Joel items.
