Steve Winwood On His Interest In EDM, Progress On Latest Studio Work
Is Steve Winwood going to be making Electronic Dance Music in the future?
That appears to be the case for the Spencer Davis Group/Traffic/Blind Faith veteran and solo star, who tells us that he’s fascinated by the genre that’s become popular around the world:
“I’m actually quite interested in certain forms of dance music…I think it has the potential to be an incredible compositional tool and, in fact, there are some people who I think are making incredible pieces of music…There are people in Brazil doing it. There’s people in Cuba. There’s people in Europe making very interesting music. I’m quite interested in that…The more I learn about it I’m getting quite interested in it because I think…possibly the next great composers will be DJ/Producers.”
Winwood’s last studio album, Nine Lives, came out in 2008, but he’s putting no timetable on this latest project:
“It’s a project that is sort of ongoing, and I haven’t really reached a conclusion for it yet and it did have to go on the back burner because I’ve been doing quite a bit of touring lately, and it’s a bit hard to carry on doing that while I’m touring — at any rate, it is for me.”
Winwood releases a new Greatest Hits Live on September 1, the same day he kicks off a U.S. tour in Santa Ynez, calif.
