NASHVILLE, TN - OCTOBER 16: Don Henley and Joe Walsh of the Eagles perform during 'History Of The Eagles Live In Concert' at the Bridgestone Arena on October 16, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee; NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 26: Stevie Nicks of the band Fleetwood Mac performs live on stage with the cast of 'School of Rock - The Musical' at the Winter Garden Theatre on April 26, 2016 in New York City.

Two weeks after the Classic West festival in Los Angeles, the six groups — led by the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac as headliners — play again this weekend at Citi Field in New York.

It marks the second show back for the Eagles after the January 2016 death of co-founder Glenn Frey, and the group’s Joe Walsh tells us the group — which added Frey’s son Deacon and Vince Gill to the lineup for the shows — is still riding high from its triumphant performance in Los Angeles:

“We figured we would at least try it and see where it went…and we tried it out in Los Angeles and it was just magic. It really was. It was received wonderfully and the energy that we all have is very healing. So I think Glenn would be proud of this.”

Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie, meanwhile, says that joining forces with the Eagles for the shows has brought back memories of the when the group’s worked together during the 70s and 80s:

“Oh my God, we used to sort of alternate between one and two in the charts back in the 80s. We’d check out Billboard and see who was number one this week. So we were fairly competitive back in the day. But I still have such fond memories of ‘Hotel California.’ It takes me back to that time.”

The Eagles headlining Saturday’s (June 29) Classic East show with Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, while Fleetwood Mac performs Sunday (June 30) with Journey and Earth, Wind & Fire. The Eagles and Doobies will also play a Classic NW show on September 30 in Seattle.
