Look…we get it. Whenever we catch wind of someone covering a beloved classic rock tune, we get nervous, too. Why mess with a good thing, right?
However, we’ve noticed as of late that a number of bands or pop stars have put their own take on a number of beloved classic rock songs, and you know what? They’re all pretty great! (Plus, if this is a way to introduce an iconic catalog to the younger generation, we’re all for it!)
Take a listen to these recent four covers of some of classic rock’s biggest hits!
Foo Fighters – “Let There Be Rock” (AC/DC)
Anyone who’s familiar with the Foo Fighters knows how much they respect those who’ve paved the way before them, and their cover of this AC/DC classic has just as much grit as the original.
Harry Styles – “The Chain” (Fleetwood Mac)
We admit that we were very leery of this one, but this stripped down cover and Styles’ surprisingly bluesy voice was…well…we did title this list the way we did for a reason!
The Killers – “Fame” (David Bowie)
Covering Bowie takes a lot of guts, but The Killers were more than up for the task. Plus, the vocals from Brandon Flowers are simply spot-on!
Avenged Sevenfold – “As Tears Go By” (Marianne Faithfull/Rolling Stones)
Honestly, we could’ve done just a list about Avenged Sevenfold’s recent covers! The metal band has been releasing various cover songs as of late as bonus material for their latest LP The Stage. Among them are covers of the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” and Del Shannon’s “Runaway,” but we’ve opted to include their most recent cover on this list, which is decidedly very un-metal, hence our intrigue.
