David Crosby, Joe Walsh Performing at Kent State 50th Anniversary Show
David Crosby and Joe Walsh have signed on to perform at a benefit concert marking the 50th anniversary of the Kent State Vietnam War protest that resulted in the Ohio National Guard shooting and killing four students.
Per Kent State’s website, the concert will take place Saturday, May 2 at the campus’s Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. Walsh was a student at Kent State at the time of the tragedy and formed Barnstorm with fellow student Joe Vitale. Walsh, Vitale and bandmate Kenny Passarelli will reunite as Barnstorm for the concert. Crosby, of course, has ties to the Kent State shooting due to the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song “Ohio.” Additional artists will be announced at a later date.
The concert, itself, will help raise funds for Kent State’s May 4th Legacy Scholarships, which are awarded to four students majoring in the university’s Peace and Conflict Studies program. Per Kent State, “Each scholarship will bear the name of one of the students killed – Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer and William Schroeder – to serve as a lasting testament to their lives and presence at Kent State.”
