Woman Calls Family For A Ride Home After Hospital Tells Them She Died of Coronavirus
Alba Maruri, a 74-year-old woman from Ecuador, gave her family the surprise of a lifetime when she called them for a ride home from the hospital. The family was told that she died of COVID-19.
According to Complex, “The hospital had mixed up its patients and declared the woman dead from the virus. However, Maruri, who was in a coma, later woke up and called her family.” They add that according to doctors, she died on March 27. This mostly likely happened due to the pandemic overwhelming Ecuador’s healthcare system.
After getting notified of Alba’s death, the family came to the hospital morgue to identify the body but had to keep their distance. Maruri’s nephew explains, “I was afraid to see her face. I was a meter and a half away. She had the same hair, the same skin tone.”
After identifying the body, it was cremated, and the family was given the ashes. A few weeks later, after regaining consciousness, Alba called to ask her sister to pick her up. Her sister said of the incident, “It’s a miracle. For nearly a month, we thought she was dead.”
Now Alba Maruri’s family is trying to figure out whose ashes they have. They’re also trying to get reimbursed for the cost of the cremation.
