Baz Luhrmann on His New Elvis Film: ‘Elvis is Kind of the Original Superhero’
The new Elvis Presley biopic Elvis starring Austin Butler as Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker received a lot of attention at CinemaCon with three new clips screened at the event.
Per Deadline, director Baz Luhrmann said of the film, which is slated to hit theaters on June 24, “You know, I haven’t actually finished it. If it feels a little like a superhero film, it is. Elvis is kind of the original superhero. He rises so high, then finds his kryptonite and falls so low and then a beautiful, powerful tragedy ensues.”
Luhrmann, perhaps, is putting pressure on himself to deliver a box office hit similar to the recent success of The Batman adding, “Man can’t live by Batman alone, we need to bring all audiences in the theater.”
As previously reported, Elvis will examine the singer’s career over the span of 20 years from the view of manager Colonel Tom Park and his complicated relationship with “The King.”
