The Philadelphia Eagles are officially set to take on the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday night in the NFC Divisional Round.
The city of Philadelphia is excited for just the second home playoff game since the Eagles beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
The John DeBella Show fed the excitement by putting a clever spin on Billy Joel's classic hit "Piano Man" with a more appropriate Philly twist on a song by a New Yorker.
"It’s 8 o’clock on a Saturday/ The Philly faithful settled in/ To Watch the Eagles make history/Their run for the Super Bowl begins"
The recognizable first line of "Piano Man" aligned almost perfectly with the scheduled kickoff.
"They ask John can you make us an Eagles song?/ With players that everyone knows/ Make it fun and inspiring and help us compete/ Let’s bring the Giants' season to a close"
The recognizable melody of "Piano Man" fit flawlessly into a football theme.
"Pass, pass, pass, score, score, sack/Pass, pass, run, score, score, score, win"
The final stretch included some creative game references to Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, and the top-ranked Eagles defense.
"So, sing along if you’re an Eagles fan/ Sing loud Saturday night/ Yeah, the Philly D’s tough, and Jalen is back/DeVonta will catch balls in flight"
It's a catchy tune for the whole DeBellaware Valley to enjoy in anticipation for a big day of tailgating, cheering on the Birds, and the enjoyment of sending New York home with a loss.
The Eagles enter the Saturday night home matchup as heavy favorites after a 14-3 regular season and a first-round bye that gave them the opportunity to rest key players dealing with injuries. The Giants made the postseason as an NFC Wild Card after a 9-7-1 season. They advanced past the Minnesota Vikings in the opening round.
