Heart & Jimmy Fallon Perform ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ During the Eclipse
Heart and Jimmy Fallon marked the April 8 solar eclipse in a very fun way.
In the video below, Fallon says straight to camera, “We have a special show tonight. Heart is our musical guest, and today is obviously the solar eclipse. So, we thought we have to do what we have to do. We have to sing ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’ with Heart while watching the solar eclipse. Let’s do this.”
Fallon is donning a very ’80s mullet wig while also wearing a unique shirt-tie-blazer combo, which is seemingly a reference to the music video for Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The Tonight Show host really hams it up during the performance and appears to throw Ann Wilson off her vocals.
The capper on the clip is when Fallon removes his eclipse glasses to reveal his eyes are a bright white lights, which is most definitely a reference to Tyler’s music video.
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” and the Eclipse Bump
Unsurprisingly, Bonnie Tyler’s classic 1983 hit was top of mind during the April 8 solar eclipse and in the days leading up to it.
According to CBS News, the track reached No. 2 on the Apple Music charts on the day of the solar eclipse. Additionally, a Spotify spokesperson confirmed the song saw a 50% increase in streams in the week before the solar eclipse. It was also the top song added to various eclipse-themed playlists.
A similar phenomenon was found on YouTube, where the video is part of the platform’s “Billion Views Club.” On the day of the solar eclipse, CBS News reported that the video for “Total Eclipse of the Heart” peaked at No. 84 on YouTube’s daily top 100 music video chart.
