Eric Clapton: Details on Extended ‘Unplugged’ Release
Eric Clapton made history with his legendary MTV Unplugged special. Now, an extended 90-minute version of that show will soon be hitting select theaters and Paramount+.
Titled Unplugged… Over 30 Years Later, the performance will screen in select U.S. and U.K. theaters on January 27 and 28. Fans can buy tickets now at ClaptonUnplugged.com/Tickets. Meanwhile, the special will hit Paramount+ on February 2.
This extended version includes behind-the-scenes footage, personal conversations about how songs were chosen, practice sessions, and band moments never before released. Audio experts have carefully restored the sound from that special night at Bray Studios in Windsor on January 16, 1992.
In a retrospective piece on WheresEric.com about the 20th anniversary of this legendary performance, Clapton said, “It’s such a joy to sing with a full band acoustically and be able to hear your voice; I find it so much more easy to adjust the volume of my own voice. On stage, I seem to be singing flat out all the time. Here, I could sing quietly, and have more dynamic range.”
The live album released from the Unplugged television special was a massive hit selling 26 million copies worldwide, with 10 million of those copies sold in the U.S. The album went on to win six Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Tears In Heaven” and Album of the Year.
