Stones New Album of Original Material in the Works
It hasn’t exactly been a secret, but the Rolling Stones have confirmed plans to make a new album of original material — the group’s first since A Bigger Bang in 2005.
Attempts to make the album last year resulted in the lauded Blue & Lonesome blues covers album that came out in December, but now guitarist Keith Richards tells Britain’s New Musical Express that a set of new material is in the offing:
“Yes, yes, we are — very, very shortly. Cutting some new stuff and considering where to take it next. ‘Blue & Lonesome’ caught us a little bit by surprise in that we figured it was something we had to do, but we didn’t expect the response.”
Producer Don Was, who’s been working with the Stones since the mid-90s, tells us that the album is still in its very early stages, with songs just starting to come together: “Truth is I don’t, we don’t know what it is yet…We just had an album out in decembeDecemberere’s no real rush. It used to have to coincide with a two-year tour and there were deadlines and things like that, but the way they’ve bene playing…in these littel short bursts you don’t need an album for every” (tour).
The Stones will play a 12-date European tour later this year, starting September 9 in Hamburg, Germany.
