Is January the slowest month of the year? The letdown after Christmas might affect event schedules on the January calendar, and the winter weather doesn’t always perk people up. However, it’s certainly not a slow month in the world of classic rock. 25 famous rock stars were born during the first month of the year.
Rock Star Birthdays
The list of rock stars with January birthdays is lengthy and impressive. It’s loaded with names of musicians who have already entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and names of others who will earn the honor in the future.
Some were gone too soon. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock & Roll, was born on Jan. 8, 1935. He shares a birthday with the legendary David Bowie, who unfortunately passed just two days after his birthday in 2016.
Others still have their careers in full swing. Steve Perry has built a solid solo career in addition to his work with Journey. Rod Stewart has maintained popularity for decades, and he is still touring with great success.
Two members of Led Zeppelin even celebrate their birthdays six days apart during the month of January. It sounds like a perfect set-up for some classic rock blocks from one of the best bands in history.
January Birthdays at MGK
Two MGK jocks even celebrate their birthdays on Jan. 14. Andre Gardner and Tony Harris are the real rock stars in our studios. You can catch Andre on the air from 2pm-7pm on weekdays. Tony picks up after him at 7pm and takes you until midnight.
Throughout the month, 102.9 WMGK will pay tribute to a long list of rock stars on their respective birthdays. We promise it’ll be more creative than the “Birthday” song by the Beatles during the tribute to some of the best Rock & Rollers in history.
