Happy New Year everyone! Here’s a round-up of a few other classic rock stories making the rounds today (January 2.)
VIDEO: Keith Urban’s Tribute to Musicians We Lost in 2017
Country superstar Keith Urban performed at the New Year’s Eve concert Music City Midnight in Nashville where he included a very moving tribute to the musical giants we lost in 2017. Urban played a melody of songs that included Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” in honor of Chris Cornell; Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider” in honor of Gregg Allman; Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode”; and AC/DC’s “Back in Black” in honor of Malcolm Young. He rounded out the tribute by playing Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’ in its entirety.
Joe Elliott on AC/DC Letting Brian Johnson Go
It’s been awhile since Brian Johnson’s exit from AC/DC due to issues with hearing loss, but in a recent interview, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott offered up a very interesting opinion about the controversial lineup change.
In speaking with Life In The Stocks, Elliott said, “I can’t speak for Angus and his team as to what their reasons were for going what they did, but considering that we had a drummer lose an arm and we waited for him, the way that they dealt with it was not the way I would have done it.”
If that sentiment doesn’t make you rethink how everything went down in AC/DC, we don’t know what will!
ICYMI: Jerry Cantrell, Krist Novoselic Perform Doors Classics with Robby Krieger
Finally, The Doors were honored by the Museum of Pop Culture recently at their 2017 Founders Award Celebration where Robby Krieger performed with Jerry Cantrell on “Love Her Madly.” Krist Novoselic then joined in on accordion on “Light My Fire” with Krieger and John Densmore.
