An ice-skating fundraiser in Canada benefiting Alzheimer’s research received a huge endorsement (and check) from Angus Young.

Young and his wife, Ella, caught wind of the fundraiser from a story from CBC News. Hockey referee Steve McNeil is traveling to each Canadian city with an NHL franchise and skating on outdoor rinks for 19 hours and 26 minutes, a nod to his mother, Eunice, who was born in 1926 and battled Alzheimer’s.

Young, of course, lost brother/bandmate Malcolm Young in 2017 due to complications from dementia.

The skate-a-thons are meant to raise awareness and funds for local Alzheimer’s organizations. One of the ways McNeil battles through the cold and fatigue is by cranking some AC/DC. His favorite AC/DC song? “Gone Shootin’” from 1978’s Powerage.

After AC/DC’s accountant reached out to the CBC about McNeil’s efforts, Young donated $19,260 CDN to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

McNeil told CBC News, “It's funny how things work in the world, but rock-and-roll is such a powerful tool. This is AC/DC. This could open so many doors."
