I can vividly remember where I was when I first heard Led Zeppelin II. I was 14 years old at a party (a party where I probably shouldn't have been!) Somehow, I had missed Zep's first album. Dunno how that happened. When Zep 2 came on the turntable, everything else around me just faded. Didn't matter that my crush Junior Sanchez was trying to talk to me. I was mesmerized by the sound coming out of those massive speakers(would they have been JBLs?) Anyway, the flanging sound between speakers, the mighty drumbeats of John Bonham which didn't fall where you expected them to but they totally worked, the wailing and moaning of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page's soaring guitar that could rapidly descend to a whisper and, although I didn't know it at the time, the EVERYTHING ELSE that John Paul Jones provided: bass, organ, backing vocals. This album shook me to the core. I honestly can't believe it's 50 years later because I still remember EXACTLY the way it made me feel.
I proudly bear the Deb Zep name. And the red-headed Led Head. The power of music. The power of ZEPPELIN!!! We celebrate this album all day today on MGK!
