Quibi Has Launched Today: What To Expect From The New Streaming Service
Today is the launch day for the new kid on the streaming block, Quibi. The streaming service’s tag line is: “Quick Bites. Big Stories” basically sums up the idea behind the platform: it gives users content in short spans of time. All their material is also all designed to be viewed on the phone.
As their website explains, “Got a few minutes? That’s all you need to be entertained, informed and inspired. Quibi will present fresh content from today’s top talent—one quick bite at a time. Get ready to make any moment extraordinary with incredible storytelling delivered right to your phone. From daily essentials to breakout shows, the next chapter will always be waiting.”
For anyone curious about Quibi, there is a lot of different content that is coming to the platform. As explained by Entertainment Weekly, “That content will take three forms: Movies in Chapters (exactly what it sounds like); short unscripted series and documentaries; and Daily Essentials, news and lifestyle programming in quick-bite form.” They also add that about 175 shows will launch on the app this year.
A lot of big names, including Jennifer Lopez, Liam Hemsworth, Anna Kendrick, Sophie Turner, Idris Elba, Joe Jonas, Tituss Burgess, Chrissy Teigen, Nicole Ritchie, and Chance The Rapper will have projects on the show. Popular shows, like Punk’d and Singled Out make their returns back to TV with new reboots. And established brands, like E! News, WWE, ESPN, Rotten Tomatoes, TMZ, and Fandango, will all have daily shows.
Pricing for Quibi will have two tiers: $4.99 with ads, $7.99 without. Also, Quibi is free right now for anyone who wants to try it out. According to their website, “Sign up for Quibi now and get a limited time 90-day free trial.”
