Video Showing How Quickly Coronavirus Can Spread Around A Restaurant Is Terrifying
There is a shocking video online that shows just how quickly coronavirus can spread in a restaurant or cruise ship setting. The experiment was done by a Japanese broadcaster to depict what it would be like in a public environment if just one person were infected.
According to the New York Post, ten people were asked to eat at a buffet. Fluorescent paint, which would only be visible under a black light, was applied to the palm of an “infected” person to represent a virus. He then coughed into his hand. Afterward, everyone in the room ate at the buffet for an hour.
At the end of the meal, the room went dark to show the results. The video shows paint on the silverware, glassware, clothes, cellphones, and even participant’s faces.
John Nicholls, a clinical professor in pathology at Hong Kong University, said the experiment was a visual of how quickly a virus can spread.”What the video demonstrated, is that it will spread to surfaces and people very efficiently, and I think it really highlights the need of what people have been saying about hand hygiene to stop the spread of disease.”
There was also another similar experiment done which showed the same environment, but what happens if people washed their hands and if the restaurant took extra measures to prevent the spread. As the New York Post explains, “In that scenario, the paint spread 97 percent less than it did initially and did not end up on any of the other participants’ faces.”
