David Prowse, the actor who originally played iconic Star Wars character Darth Vader, has died. He was 85.

News of Prowse's passing was confirmed by Bowington Management via Twitter who wrote, "It's with great regret and heart-wrenching sadness for us and millions of fans around the world, to announce that our client DAVE PROWSE M.B.E. has passed away at the age of 85."

Prowse was the physical embodiment of the classic villain in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, 1980's Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. James Earl Jones famously provided the voice for Darth Vader.

Before his turn as Darth Vader, Prowse was best known for being a prominent bodybuilder in his native U.K. in the 1960s and won the British Weightlifting Championship multiple times in the decade.
