Almost Made It To Bedtime… Then Stitches!
What started as a normal Tuesday night in my house turned into an eventful evening in the emergency room. It was 7pm, 1 of our boys was already bathed and in his pajamas, wife about to put the 4 month old baby about to go to sleep. I’m cleaning the dishes, and the boys were running around in circles playing in the living room when there was the loud thump of a child hitting their head, followed by the scream and the other one yelling “Dad!” If you’re a parent, especially one of boys you are probably having vivid memory of this happening to your kids. The 3 year old tripped and hit the corner of our closet wall face first. Denting the wall and took a piece of the paint with him.
We’ve gone through a forehead wound before with this one… in August we had to make an ER trip after he got hit in the forehead with a driver when him and his brother were golfing in the backyard (I told them not to swing until I got back out. That went well.)
Most of you know, as a parent your goal by mid-afternoon a lot of days is to get to just get to bedtime. We were so close! SO CLOSE! 30 minutes away. Then we spent 3 1/2 hours at the hospital. The gash on his forehead was large enough to need 8 stitches. On a 3 year old’s forehead, that’s a lot. For those that may have a weak constitution, this next line may not be for you. There isn’t much skin between your outer layer and skull so you can be sure I got a glimpse of some pale grey inside that cut. This kid was a trooper, 2nd time in 6 months he needed stitches not a single tear when they were stitching him up. Just sat there watching a tv show like someone who’s been through this multiple times.
Big thanks to the nurses in the busy Abington ER that got us back almost immediately, and especially to Alyssa and Joe who took care of Jack.
