Vaughn RidleyGolf is a great game that people all over the world play, and the United States has some absolutely amazing courses. Pennsylvania has 3 of the best courses in the US, and 2 of them are just outside Philadelphia. Golf.com ranked the top 100 golf courses in America for 2023 and Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York all claimed plenty of spaces on the list.
Let's quickly start at the top of the list because its a course that is kind of right in our backyard. #1 on the list is Pine Valley right across the bridge in Pine Valley, NJ. It seems its been the top slot since they started ranking courses. If you want to play Pine Valley you better find someone who is a member there, and make sure they want to bring you, because that is the only way you are getting on. Alright, on to the Pennsylvania courses on the list.
#81 Aronimink Golf Club, Newtown Square, PA

Aronimink's course layout was created by legendary golf course architect Donald Ross beginning in 1926 and opened for play in 1928. Aronimink has hosted several PGA tour events, most recently the BMW Championship in 2018 won by Keegan Bradley. Aronimink is a walking course and caddies are provided to you. Golf Carts are only available to those who need them for a medical reason. The PGA Tour brings one of it 4 majors back to Aronimink for the 2026 PGA Championship. #10 Merion Golf Club (East Course), Ardmore, PA

Merion's east course is full of incredible history, from the Bobby Jones winning the first ever golf grand slam (at the time it was the US and British Opens and US and British Amatuers), Ben Hogan's 1 iron on the 18th fairway to win the 1950 US Open, to the wicker baskets instead of flags topping the pin on each green. The East course at Merion, just like Aronimink is a walking only course. Each golfer is given a caddie for their round and, from a story I've been told, you should trust that caddie. The caddies at Merion are trained and need to know the yardage from where ever they are on the course. Merion's east course is amazing, but don't forget about their west course which would be also be a highly rated course if not for it's big brother course across the street. The U.S. Open will be returning to Merion in 2030 and 2050. More course and club info here: Merion Golf Club
#8 Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont, PA

Oakmont opened in 1904, in a suburb of Pittsburgh. Oakmont is a staple in the PGA tour stable of courses for tournaments and majors. 9 U.S. Opens, 3 PGA Championships and 2 U.S. Women's Opens have been played at Oakont Country Club. The PGA returns to Oakmont for 4 more U.S. Opens in 2025, 2033, 2042 and 2049. Oakmont is a walking course with caddies.

MLB Superstar Opening Golf Course in South Jersey Designed by Tiger Woods
Get excited South Jersey, a brand new state of the art golf course is coming, all thanks to a Major League Baseball Superstar and Tiger Woods! He grew up and still lives in Millville in the off-season so that's why it's here.
The brand new golf course in Vineland will be designed by Tiger Woods' golf course architecture firm, TGR Design, which will clearly add a much higher profile to the new golf course. No word on if Tiger is going to show up to christen it, but regardless, it's still pretty cool.
The Tri-State Area is very familiar with very fancy and exclusive golf courses. In fact, one of the most expensive and exclusive golf courses in the entire country is also in South Jersey. Pine Valley is so old that it just removed all of it's gender restrictions in 2021! Pine Valley secured the number one ranking in Golf Digest's biennial America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses 2019–20 and 2021-22. There are about 930 members spread throughout the world, and the list is a closely guarded secret. A few years ago a caller told me that his uncle used to be a security guard at Pine Valley. He said these super rich and famous people would fly their helicopters in to play.
Golf in general has become super popular for famous athletes of other sports so this new partnership doesn't seem to far fetched. I remember when he signed his new contract with the Los Angles Angels for $450 Million, I said, he could literally buy Millville with that money. Obviously he didn't buy the city, but building his new golf course is definitely a start. Maybe he can help fix the Cumberland Mall next!
He might not be on the Phillies, but he's good friends with Bryce Harper.

It Will Open in Spring 2025
Mike Trout who was born in Cumberland County, announced Monday he's building a brand-new golf course and club called named "Trout National - The Reserve" in Vineland. The course and club are expected to break ground this year and be open by 2025, according to a release.
The course will be designed by Tiger Woods' golf course architecture firm, TGR Design, adding a little more name recognition to the project.
"I'm so excited to finally officially announce that we’re doing this project, and doing it in a community that means so much to me," Trout said Monday in a release. "I was born in Vineland and raised in Millville. I met my wife, Jessica, in Millville, and my parents and siblings and in-laws still live in the area. I could put down roots anywhere in the country, but Jessica and I make south Jersey our off-season home and always cherish the time we get to spend there."
