Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor Said His Bodyguards Once Roughed Up Vince Neil
Andy Taylor, the former guitarist for Duran Duran, briefly touched on an incident with Vince Neil in a new interview.
The guitarist was speaking with Classic Rock to promote his new solo album, Man’s A Wolf To Man. During the conversation, he was asked whether he had any regrets in his career. Taylor said he didn’t. He said he was fortunate not to have “the weird, pervy, f—ed-up experiences that a lot of people talk about.” Of course, that’s not to say nothing unusual happened.
“The worst s— was Vince Neil trying to fight me and my bodyguards having to sort him out,” said Taylor. “He turned up with some f—ing biker dudes, so they beat the s— out of them as well, ha ha ha!”
As for what led to this altercation, Ultimate Classic Rock cites a 2005 interview Neil gave to ContactMusic. He took issue with some comments Duran Duran made about Motley Crue.
Neil said, “I read this thing where those f-ckheads in Duran Duran were like, ‘We all travel together and that’s the only way to tour and it just shows how f-cked up Motley Crue is.’ I was like, ‘Who the f-ck are you to tell us how f-cked up we are!'”
Andy Taylor and His Health
Taylor continues to work on new music in the face of dealing with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer.
In November 2022, the guitarist went public with his diagnosis revealing in a statement he was initially diagnosed “just over 4-years ago.” His illness prevented him from joining Duran Duran at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, despite previously announcing he would attend the ceremony. He was also planning on performing and noted he “even bought a new guitar with the essential whammy!”
Taylor insisted he didn’t want his illness to get in the way of Duran Duran being honored by the Rock Hall. He said, in part, “However, none of this needs to or should detract from what this band (with or without me) has achieved and sustained for 44 years … I’m so very proud of these four brothers; I’m amazed at their durability, and I’m overjoyed at accepting this award.”
