Phillies Opening Day Pushed Back To Friday Due To Incoming Rain
We will have to wait a little bit longer for the start to the Phillies season. Phillies Opening day was originally schedule for Thursday, March 28th at 3:05pm. but now we will have to wait until the same time, on Friday. The forecast calls for rain all day on Thursday, and today the MLB and the Phillies made the call to push the game back. They released the following statement.
“Due to the anticipated rain on Thursday, we have elected to move our home opener with the Braves to Friday,” said Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck. “This decision was made after consultation with Major League Baseball and various weather services. The open date on Friday gives us the ability to reschedule the game.”
According to the current forecast, there will be scattered showers from the early AM hours, up until 9pm. Leaving no space to feasible get the game in. So rather than risk it, they are taking advantage of the open day on the schedule.
They made similar move last season for their home opener. That Thursday called for rain, and Friday looked clear. Only in that case, Thursday wound up being nicer than Friday. Weather prediction is as always, an imperfect science. So there is a chance this one doesn’t pan out for them either. But based on the information they are being given, this was the right decision.
Hopes are high for the Phillies this season. They are coming off a year where they came just short of the World Series. The year before that they were two wins away from winning it all. And that experience has made them hungry. Every beat reporter who joined our station echoed those same sentiments.
But that will have to wait another day now. Phillies Opening Day will take place on Friday now. All tickets for Thursdays postponed game will be honored on Friday.
