Pearl Jam Releases New Track ‘Wreckage’
Pearl Jam has released the third track preview to their upcoming new album Dark Matter with “Wreckage.”
The melodic, mid-tempo tune is already being well-received by fans. In the YouTube comment section for the track, one fan wrote, “Holy moly! They really channeled their Petty/Heartbreakers on this one! I like it!” Another wrote, “PJ always seem to hit themes where I am in life.”
Meanwhile, many fans marveled at Eddie Vedder’s vocals on “Wreckage.” One fan wrote, “They sound perfect! Eddie’s voice gives me goosebumps every time.” Another fan wrote, “Older Eddie voice is different, but it adds a layer of wisdom.”
“Wreckage” follows the release of “Running” last month and the title track, which was released in February.
Dark Matter, Pearl Jam’s twelfth studio album, is due out on April 19. The album is available for pre-order here. Additionally, a special edition of the album will be available on Record Store Day, which is taking place on April 20.
Eddie Vedder on Future Pearl Jam Albums
If the track previews are any indication, this new Pearl Jam album could be an all-timer. However, fans should really cherish Dark Matter, because it’s unclear how many more new Pearl Jam albums will follow.
Vedder touched on this in a recent interview with MOJO. The frontman talked about how much he leans on his longtime friendships. At the same time, he said he finds himself in situations where he realizes certain people should be there. Those people are his late friends from the Seattle music scene: Layne Staley, Chris Cornell and Mark Lanegan.
“And you’re sad for them that they’re not [there],” said Vedder (h/t NME). “But it makes you realize you gotta be healthy. You want to be around for your kids. You want to make good records, and we might have one or two left.”
