Ozzy Osbourne Wants Motorhead In The Rock Hall
Ozzy Osbourne was revealed to be part of the 2024 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this week. After being inducted into the Rock Hall in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath, this makes the Prince of Darkness the latest multiple inductee.
Of course, there are plenty of musicians who still should be inducted into the Rock Hall, period, let alone multiple times. According to Osbourne, Motorhead should “definitely” be in.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Osbourne calls late Motorhead frontman/friend Lemmy Kilmister “the ultimate metal guy.” He added, “What I liked about Lemmy is he didn’t give a fuck who you were. If you asked him a question, he’d tell you what he thought.”
Motorhead has been eligible for the Rock Hall since 2003. Unfortunately, they’ve only been nominated once in 2020.
Interestingly, Ozzy expressed to Rolling Stone that he was happy Mary J. Blige and Cher are part of the 2024 Rock Hall class and said Cher “should have gotten in years ago.” He expressed similar sentiments about Foreigner, even though he considers the current lineup “like a cover band.” Ozzy also thinks Mariah Carey, who was nominated for the 2024 class, should get in one day.
In March, Ozzy told Rolling Stone, “It’s an honor that I’m nominated, but I’m not expecting to get in. There’s Mariah Carey, there’s Cher, Lenny Kravitz. I’m up against some serious people.”
When is the Rock Hall 2024 Induction Ceremony?
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio. As previously reported, the 2024 ceremony will live stream on Disney+. An edited special will air on ABC at a later date, which will be available on Hulu the next day.
John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement, “Rock & Roll is an ever-evolving amalgam of sounds that impacts culture and moves generations. This diverse group of inductees each broke down musical barriers and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
For the first time this year, the Rock Hall induction class was announced on American Idol. Host Ryan Seacrest and judge/2022 Rock Hall inductee Lionel Richie did the honors.
The Rock Hall noted in a press release, “Four out of the eight inductees in the Performer category were on the ballot for the first time, including Cher, Foreigner, Kool & the Gang and Peter Frampton.” However, it should also be noted that Ozzy Osbourne was on the ballot for the first time as a solo artist, despite being eligible since 2005.
