Kelly Hansen joined the band Hurricane in 1985 after responding to a local ad in the newspaper. The band then went on to sign with Enigma/Capitol during the late eighties and racked up five Top 20 MTV music videos and even a top 40 single, “I’m On To You”.
After Hurricane disbanded, Kelly performed in a group with Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille, toured as a music director and backing vocalist with Liane Foly, and composed music for television.
After Lou Gramm left Foreigner in 2003 due to ongoing disputes with Mick Jones, Hansen became their lead singer in 2005. He is now the third lead singer of Foreigner, with Lou Gramm and Johnny Edwards his predecessors. So after an incredible 17 year run, we got to talk with “the new guy” once again!
Foreigner is seemingly playing every nook and cranny of Pennsylvania on their upcoming tour, but we caught Kelly on break from the road, relaxing at home. He told us about the stresses of touring so often, what he has to do to protect his voice, and of course… what he’s been up to in the cooking realm (he is a former Celebrity Rock Star Champion of the popular tv show Chopped). Check him out!
