Costco Is Temporarily Limiting Meat Purchases Due To Coronavirus
Costco is putting new rules into place for members due to the coronavirus. On their website, they announced that they would be temporarily limiting meat purchases to three items per customer.
They explain, “Costco has implemented limits on certain items to help ensure more members are able to purchase merchandise they want and need. Our buyers and suppliers are working hard to provide essential, high demand merchandise as well as everyday favorites. Fresh meat purchases are temporarily limited to a total of 3 items per member among the beef, pork, and poultry products.”
According to CNN, the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union estimated last week that 20 meatpacking and food processing workers have died so far. The union said last week the closures have resulted in a 25% reduction in pork slaughter capacity and 10% reduction in beef slaughter capacity. President Trump recently signed an executive order aimed at keeping meat plants open during the crisis.
There is positive news for Costco members, though. The brand announced that effective Monday, May 4, most of the U.S. Costco locations and Costco gas stations would return to regular operating hours. Also currently effective, all Costco members and guests must wear a face covering that covers both their mouth and nose at all times while they are shopping at Costco.
