‘Empire Strikes Back’ Becomes Latest Classic Film to Hit No.1 at the Box Office
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back has become the latest classic film to top the box office in the United States thanks in part to special screenings at drive-in theaters.
Per Deadline, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back grossed between $400k and $500k this past weekend. It’s the first time the film topped the box office since it was brought back to theaters in February 1997.
Other classic films that have topped the box office in recent weeks due to drive-in theater screenings include Jaws, Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters.
