Eagles “Do The Deal” And Sign Marcus Mariota
8 years after Philadelphia was clamoring for Chip Kelly to “Do The Deal” the Eagles finally “Do The Deal” and sign Marcus Mariota to a 1 year contract for $5 million dollars with a chance to get up to $8. This per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter

Since getting drafted by the Titans 2nd overall in the 2015 draft, Mariota has proven to be just what the Eagles are signing him for; a backup. Mariota bounced around from the Titans, to the Raiders, and last year playing with the Falcons. But the Falcons signed Mariota to be a starting quarterback as they were waiting to usher in the Desmond Ridder era in Atlanta, the Eagles are signing him to hold a clipboard as Jalen Hurts balls out.
Mariota quit on the Falcons last year. Walking away after he was benched for the aforementioned Ridder. But in his career he has completed 63% of his passes in his career. He is more fitted for the Eagles offense than last years backup (Gardner Minshew) who signed with the Colts last season.
Mariota was a very good backup for the Raiders, and filled in admirably when called upon after injuries racked up for Derek Carr. It seems like when his role is to be a backup, he is a model citizen. But last season was not a good look for Mariota who failed to click in Arthur Smith’s offense which was weird since he played under Smith in Tennessee. Now Mariota will roll into Brian Johnson’s offense, which should not differ too much from last years offense run by Shane Steichen
This is also a HUGE day for Sal Paolantonio. It only took 8 years but the Eagles did it! They hashtagged, Did The Deal and Mariota is an Eagle. Thankfully though they didnt have to give up a ton of draft picks to get him.
