A mixed bag of excitement and nerves comes with traveling solo, whether you’re exploring your own backyard or jet-setting across the globe. It can raise many thoughts from the solo dining jitters to serious safety concerns, especially for women. According to a 2022 Solo Female Travelers Club survey, an increasing number of women express interest in independently exploring new destinations. Despite any initial reservations or uncertainties, traveling solo can offer a unique and fulfilling experience.

Researchers at TrustedHousesitters conducted a study to identify the best U.S. states for women travelers to explore on their own. Their analysis considered a range of factors, including travel statistics for female travelers, crime data, community friendliness surveys, and an assessment of women’s safety in each state provided by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. Additionally, they considered factors that influence the attractiveness of a destination for solo female travelers who retired or are working remotely, including existing popularity among female tourists and the availability and speed of Wi-Fi connectivity.
