Let’s just immediately address the elephant in the room and explain that yes, the liner is essentially the underwear. The hype is real. Liner shorts for men have become increasingly popular and upon getting my first pair, I agree that they are pretty awesome.
Over the past few weeks if you were searching for Father’s Day gift ideas for Dad popular retail outlets like Amazon or newer and hip brands like Chubbie’s had liner shorts atop their gift guides.
For those who are unfamiliar, this style of shorts is a one-stop shop. The liner is typically a polyester and elastane blend that is both lightweight and breathable. The primary purpose of these is to increase comfort and function. The liner is similar to that of a mesh lining in a bathing suit, but a more flexible material being polyester-based.
Still, What Is The Big Deal With Men’s Liner Shorts?
Well, if you look at the top brands that seem to be promoting them the most, they tend to focus on lightweight, comfort, and flexibility as their primary marketing points. These popular brands include Vuori, Lululemon, and Fair Harbor.
My first pair is the Vuori “Kore” shorts (and I’m on the hunt for a Fair Harbor next). Aside from the feel of the Vuori shorts, I immediately noticed how far liner shorts have come over recent years. Having a new clothing brand be as successful as Vuori has in the past few years certainly got my attention. It’s a very crowded space, but their innovative concept of having all their items maximize lightweight comfort has caught on.
With the shorts, I have worn mine often to work out or when coaching. I have also worn them to play golf and to the clubhouse restaurant post 18 holes. I’ve worn them as my every day, get things down shorts, and I felt no hesitation swimming in them as a bathing suit.
Furthermore, I’ve noticed on days when I have put on the Kore shorts, it’s hours later and I still have them on. This spring, my weekends have been jam-packed with kids’ sports, landscaping, and social functions. I often threw on my black Vuori’s early Saturday morning to bring my little guys to lacrosse, mowed the lawn around lunchtime, and then had to attend an outdoor social function around sundown. I often noticed me saying to myself, “Hmm, I’m still wearing these black shorts from 7 AM this morning.”
My point is obvious, this term “flexibility” is multi-dimensional when it comes to liner shorts. They can serve multiple purposes. Yet, they look good for each occasion. It is very much possible to look and feel good at the same time.
