‘Be Right Here’: Kevin Smith Living In The Now After Heart Attack
Kevin Smith is living his best life after surviving a near-fatal heart attack in 2018. Now, he has a fresh perspective on life and is sharing his wisdom.
The famous writer/director/actor suffered what’s known as a widow-maker heart attack back in 2018, and now he’s healthier than ever, both physically and mentally. In fact, he’s calling that massive heart attack the greatest gift he’s ever had!
Kevin Smith Living Better Following Heart Attack
Sometimes, people can say they’re doing well, but you can tell that isn’t the truth. It’s written on their face and that kind of thing can be hard to hide. However, with Kevin Smith you can tell that this new found perspective is genuine and true. He’s opening up about the way he sees life now and is encouraging others to live the same way–whether he intends to or not.
Smith appeared in good spirits at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and opened up about the changes he’s made since 2018 and that near-fatal heart attack. He tells PEOPLE he’s prioritizing his health and enjoying living in the moment, saying, “It is [a] struggle…to remember to breathe and place yourself in the here and now. Be mindful, not live in the past, not worry about the future, but just be right here.” While it may sound cheesy and obvious, he really makes a good point here.
Many of us are guilty of this kind of mindset. We can dwell on the past and refuse to move on and get over it. Likewise, we can be too concerned about the future and get lost in comparison culture. Instead, we should just be focused on the right now. It’s so easy to get lost and stressed about things that could happen down the road, and we end up forgetting to enjoy what’s around us. Loved ones can pass away, friends can move away–you never know. It’s so important to be present, and Kevin Smith is doing a great job sharing his personal experience so people can learn from him instead of having to learn first-hand.
Kevin Smith Shares New Perspective After Massive Heart Attack
A couple of years ago, Smith told PEOPLE that the heart attack was the greatest gift he’s ever had. At first, that didn’t make sense. He almost died! How could that be a gift? However, once you hear his words and notice the changes in his life since the incident you realize it might be true. He’s now vegan and living a healthier lifestyle–and he even tells PEOPLE that, “it gave me the spine for Clerks III.” Much of the movie was inspired by his heart-attack and in the movie Jeff Anderson’s Randal Graves even suffers a similar heart attack.
It’s great that we still have Kevin Smith with us and he’s continuing to bring smiles to our faces anyway he can. It was a close call, but it sounds like a lot of good came out of it. It’s all about perspective. Kevin Smith’s latest project, The 4:30 Movie, hits theaters in September.
