At the Academy of Music, “The Nutcracker” runs through Dec. 29. Beatrice Jona Affron conducts as young singers join the Ballet Orchestra, kicking off a month of holiday entertainment.

On Dec. 10, singers from 14 churches come together for A Soulful Christmas. Three days later, people will gather with John Conahan at the Kimmel Center, singing “Silent Night” and other holiday classics.

Conductor Nézet-Séguin leads performances on Dec. 12 and 13 featuring Coleridge-Taylor’s Christmas Overture. Two amazing singers, Laurin Talese and V. Shayne Frederick, join in for these special nights.

Under Na’Zir McFadden’s direction, No Name Pops teams up with Broadway performers on Dec. 14 for their Holiday Spectacular, putting a fresh spin on holiday favorites.

The next two days showcase “The Glorious Sound of Christmas” as William Eddins conducts musicians playing traditional carols. Dec. 15 is packed with music: Vivaldi’s “Gloria” plays at Tindley Temple, while brass instruments take over Cherry Street Pier as TubaChristmas celebrates 51 years of free shows.

Handel’s famous “Messiah” takes center stage Dec. 21 and 22. Meanwhile, Piffaro goes old school Dec. 20 through 22, playing traditional English music at venues across the city.
