On This Day
Leap Day: Top 5 Songs with Leap or Jump in the Title
It's a day we celebrate(?) once every four years. February 29th, Leap Day. If you were born on February 29th, Happy Birthday to you! 44 years old? Today you turn 11. If you're 64, today you're able to get you're Pennsylvania driving permit because it's your 16th birthday! In non-leap years, do you celebrate on February 28th or on March 1st? There are plenty of Leap Day deals and gags to celebrate this day, but this isn't where you come to find those deals... We don't just scoop the top when it comes to our articles! This is where you'll find writing about nonsensical topics that have really nothing to do with Leap Day at all. Another word for leap is jump. There aren't a ton a great songs that have the word leap in the title, but there sure are a bunch with the word Jump! Let's take a look at the top five songs that have Jump in the title. Why? Bluto Blutarsky answered that question years ago in Animal House. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRzsUVXXMyE 5. The Pointer Sisters - Jump (For My Love) Right from the start of the drum machine and synthesizer, you know you're in for an early 80's treat. Add in the dancing in front of everyone's 80's/90's bathroom wall tile and you've got a can't miss Jump song. Rightly placed in the fifth spot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyTVyCp7xrw 4. Kris Kross - Jump Give kids a good beat and backwards clothes, and you've got a hit. Kris Kross had it figured out. If this song didn't make the list it would be "wiggida, wiggida, wiggida wack" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=010KyIQjkTk 3. Harry Belafonte - Jump in the Line Originally written in the 1940's by Lord Kitchener. Covered by Lord Flea in the 50's, but given life by Harry Belafonte in the 60's. The Calypso beat, the horns and the energy Harry brings to the song have helped in remain as a fun, summer song 60 years later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMXBJW1PuU8 2. House of Pain - Jump Around When I hear the opening of Jump Around it takes me back to Robin Williams throwing a party in the opening few minutes of the movie Mrs. Doubtfire. A song, like the one taking the top spot, is still played at sporting events, weddings, etc. It's passed through generations as a good party anthem, deserving of number two. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrL_LzX5wv4 1. Van Halen - Jump You didn't think something was going to top this did you? Van Halen's biggest hit has to be the #1 Jump song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwYN7mTi6HM Happy Leap Day! We'll see you in 4 years.
