Kids Eat, and LOVE, Weird Foods Combos

Every once in a while in my text message with my family, Salisbury steak dinners are brought up. I don't know what brand it was, other than the small plate carrying it was that red and white checkered look. It looked a bit like a picnic table cloth. My brother, sister and I absolutely loved when we were having Salisbury steak! It was the finest of dining for 3 children. If my parents had dressed up like servants we could've been mansion people. That's how much we loved when it was on the menu. 25-30 years later all of us look at what we were actually eating and we're all hard passing on it. The goopy sauce, on top of thin hamburger meat... I mean sheesh. Children's palates don't discriminate. That is obvious by some of the combinations I've seen my kids put together, and the ones I remember putting together when I was their age. I loved spicy mustard spread on white bread. That's it. Squirt mustard, spread on bread, eat. Bang! Snacktime! That one isn't as gross as Salisbury steak when I think about it as an adult. Yellow mustard would've been a step to far. That stuff is disgusting. To this day I will put potato chips on a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's not a weird combo, since you eat chips on the side anyway. I don't like chunky peanut butter, but I like the crunch of the chips on my sandwich. It's banging. Try it. While we're on the topic of peanut butter and jelly, take your sandwich game up a notch and make a grilled peanut butter and jelly. Cook it the same way you'd make a grilled cheese. Make sandwich. Melt butter in the pan on medium. Toss in the sandwich. While the one side cooks, put a few slices of butter on the top (uncooked) slice. Flip it, and let it cook, just like you would a grilled cheese. Careful on that first bite. The peanut butter is a little hot at first. You're welcome!
