Access To Rock

The best part about music is that you can basically do anything you want. That’s why there are a number of popular bands with food-related names.

There are no bounds to the creativity of musicians. They are able to fill the silence with beautiful sounds because of their talent. Because of that, they can do whatever the heck they want when naming their act. As long as your music is good, you can call your band “Cream” and get away with it. How cool is that?

Another cool thing about these food names, though, is how dang many there are. A ton of popular acts took inspiration from things you can eat when deciding upon a name. It’s a fun game to see how many food acts you can name (and this list is a good head-start).

When you name your future band, consider a food name. Go with something like “Chicken Nuggets,” or “Mashed Potatoes.” Or keep it simple with something like “Mint.” You never know what will stick. And again, as long as your music is good, you can pretty much get away with whatever you want.

Without further ado, here are 11 “tasty” bands with food-related names:

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers

I wouldn’t recommend eating Red Hot Chili Peppers straight, but they’re good on top of some ramen or in hot sauce. RHCP must’ve known how HOT their music would become when naming themselves.

  • The Smashing Pumpkins

Pumpkins and Mayonnaise. Ew. But this 90s alt-rock group named themselves after what you do when you want to make a pie out of a gourd. You smash a pumpkin. Ba dum tssss.

  • Cream

Whatever your feelings are on this name, keep them to yourself. The Clapton-led group’s name is actually a shortening of the saying, “the cream of the crop,” but we like to think they’re named after the stuff you put in your coffee.

  • The Cranberries

Now we just need The Turkeys, The Mashed Potatoes, The Gravies, and The Stuffings to come out of hiding and we’ll have a Thanksgiving playlist. Did you know their original name was “The Cranberry Saw Us”? Creepy.

  • Bowling For Soup

Bowling For Soup is a name inspired by a Steve Martin comedy act. But this one is undeniable. I mean, soup? It’s as food-named as food-named things could get.

  • Korn

These sneaky guys thought spelling “corn” with a “K” would exclude them from this list. No! Korn still counts as a food item. It’s a cooler way to spell it, duh.

  • Meat Loaf

Do not come for me, I know this is not a band but instead a singular person. But how could I leave Meat Loaf off of this list? The dude named himself after your least favorite dinner as a kid. That’s commitment.

  • Sugar Ray

A band for your sweet tooth. I guess you could say their music is like dessert. AND a bonus! Their first album was named Lemonade and Brownies. ALSO SWEET!

  • Blind Melon

I think all melons are blind, technically. I mean, they don’t have eyes, right? Cool name for a band, though.

  • Raspberries

I bet you forgot about these guys! They can go in the pantheon of fruit-named bands along with Blind Melon, The Cranberries, and The Smashing Pumpkins. Yes, pumpkins are fruits.

  • Cake

Cake named themselves after my favorite dessert, how kind of them! They’re not to be confused with “The Cake,” the 1960s girl-group consisting of Jeanette Jacobs, Barbara Morillo and Eleanor Barooshian.
