An upsetting finish to the 2023 season and now we break down the Phillies free agent list for the 2024 season. Philadelphia occupied the number four seed in the National League side of the postseason. They swept the Miami Marlins in the Wild Card round and then beat the Atlanta Braves in just four games to head to the National League Championship Series.
That’s where it all changed. The Phillies took on the Arizona Diamondbacks, the sixth seed, who actually had swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. After the Phillies took the first two games, the Diamondbacks were able to win four of the next five to take down Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park during game seven.
The World Series is now set for the Texas Rangers against the Arizona Diamondbacks and it starts on Friday, October 27th.

Phillies Free Agent List 2024
Now we look towards NEXT season. Sounds crazy but we’ve got high expectations moving forward. There are a couple of players that are now technically free agents and the Phillies need to act to keep some of your favorite players on the team.
The biggest question moving forward will have to be Bryce Harper’s future at first base. Because, if he stays there, all of a sudden, things start to change. You will find out why that is super important to know once you make it down to the biggest and most expensive free agent decision the Phillies have this offseason.
Let’s take a look at this very, very important decision.
Drew Ellis
They signed Drew Ellis as a free agent back in April of 2023. He jumped up and down from the minors while part of the organization. He was not picked up for the postseason roster and it seems like (and they should) the Phillies will let him walk.

Scott Kingery
He has been in the system for the Phillies since the beginning of his career. Drafted in June of 2015, he’s made his way all the way to the majors from Single-A however now he’s a free agent. He actually played 147 games in the majors in 2018 but injuries have hurt his career. Will they re-sign his club option? We will only have to wait to find out.

Michael Lorenzen
What a big mid-season addition to the Phillies! In his first home game pitching, back on August 9th, 2023, he threw a no-hitter! What are the chances? We didn’t see a lot of him in the playoffs but I think this is a must re-sign for the Phillies.

Craig Kimbrel
Kimbrel Kimbrel Kimbrel, here’s the biggest question! He had a good season, nothing INSANE. Tough time in the National League Championship Series. He’s 35 years old, is it time to part ways after one season?

Aaron Nola
Did he prove himself to give the big, big contract? He signed for four years, $45 million back in 2019 and now that is up. He was only drafted back in 2014 so this is the big contract for him. The market says he’s commanding five years, $125 million which is double what he is making now. Let it be known, I think they should offer him a new contract but honestly, I don’t think they will.

Rhys Hoskins
Here’s the big question of them all. With Bryce Harper at first base, will they re-sign the bat-spiking hero from last season? The unfortunate truth is that he tore his ACL in a Spring Training game early in 2023 so he did not take an at-bat this season. This was a “contract year” where he could prove himself and he didn’t have the chance to. I don’t know if they will re-sign him but I think there is a need elsewhere other than first at this time.
