Matt Cord Show

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know by now that our hometown Philadelphia Eagles took down the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon by a score of 28-23, and are now heading into the team’s bye week.

Nothing is better than getting a big-time win over your archrival in dramatic fashion.

Wait, scratch that.

Nothing is better than getting a big-time win over your archrival in dramatic fashion — while improving to an NFL-best 8-1 record, and heading into the bye week!

The outlook for the rest of the year is extremely bright for the Birds as they look to advance to the Super Bowl for the second straight season. Of course, we just need them to finish the job this time and bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Philly.

With all that being said, since the Eagles are on their bye week this week and there won’t be a game on Sunday, I think a lot of people in the greater Philadelphia area are going to be looking for something to fill that void — me included!

So, as your local morning show host on the city’s best rock and roll station, I figured I would help a little bit!

I decided to gather my top five favorite songs with the word “bye” or “by” in it in honor of the Eagles being on their bye week.

So if you are looking for something to do on Sunday, try taking a listen to these five songs and maybe you’ll forget the Birds are missing on a Sunday!

There are countless songs that have the words “bye” or “by” in the title, but these are the ones that stick out to me the most.

Let me know what you think of my choices, and let me know if there are any songs that you think should have made it on the list.

Let’s all gather our breath this Sunday during the bye week because I think we’re in for another long run with the Birds.

E-A-G-L-E-S — EAGLES!!!

The List…

  • The Cars - Bye Bye Love

This track was released on the band’s debut self-titled album in 1978. It is track number seven.

  • Rush - Fly By Night

This is the title track to Rush’s album of the same name — Fly By Night — released in 1975. It is track five on the band’s sophomore album.

  • John Lennon - Stand By Me

What an all-time cover of an already timeless classic track by Ben E. King. Lennon did this in 1975 and it still sounds as fresh as ever.

  • Genesis - Home By The Sea

Another song that appeared on a band’s self-titled album. This song was the third track on Genesis’ album “Genesis” released in 1983.

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way

Similar to the earlier entry on the list by Rush, this song appears on RHCP’s album of the same name — By The Way. Easily one of my favorites by them!

  • WILD CARD: *NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye

Well, the more I was thinking about the bye week for the Birds, I realized this probably won’t be the only bye week the team has this year with the way things are trending. I realized that if they clinch the 1-seed in the NFC, then they’ll also have a bye week during the wild card weekend. So in preparation for that, here is a wild card pop song with the word “bye” in it! A boy band classic!
