National Film Registry: 2023 Selections Include ‘Home Alone,’ ‘Apollo 13’
The Library of Congress has unveiled its latest additions to the National Film Registry. As with years past, the selections are very diverse in genre.
A number of ’90s blockbusters were selected to be added to the National Film Registry. They include Home Alone, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Apollo 13. Also making the cut are ’80s classics, including Fame and Desperately Seeking Susan. The full selection list is below.
Since 1989, the Librarian of Congress has named 25 films to be added to the National Film Registry as part of the National Film Preservation Act. To be added, a film must be at least ten years old and are considered “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant.
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden said in a statement, “We are proud to add 25 diverse films to the National Film Registry as we preserve our history through film. We’re grateful to the film community for collaborating with the Library of Congress in our goal to preserve the heritage of cinema for generations to come.”
Turner Classic Movies will honor this year’s selection with a television special that aires on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
