Our Yearly Switch to Standard Time is Dumbest Thing We Do
It’s the time of year when we all decide we’re just going to say yes to more night sky. This is stupid. I know two people who enjoy less daylight towards the end of the day. Both of those people are horribly mistaken. Yea, we get an extra hour of sleep. IT IS ONLY AN EXTRA HOUR FOR A SINGLE DAY! After that it’s dark shortly after 5pm. This sucks. When you get home from work and it’s still light out, you’re more likely to go outside and do something. I mean come on! Common sense says life is better when it’s lighter out. There are even people that have disorders around changing the clocks. Our yearly switch to standard time is the dumbest thing we do.
It’s so dumb Arizona doesn’t even do it! Did you know that? Half the year Arizona is two hours behind us, the other half they’re three hours behind us. Arizona gets to stay in standard time though because they need night skies more often. When it’s 120 outside you need as little sun as possible. The rest of us, grow up!
One of the two people I mentioned earlier wants to stick with Standard Time because they want more light at work since they work early. That’s nonsense. You’re at work, who the hell cares if it’s light or dark out. You’ll still be at work. The time change argument has reached such a fever pitch that the Senate passed a bill to stick with Daylight Savings Time. The correct time format. But as with anything in government, the bill just flounders in the House of Representatives. This is what we should be arguing about. Not the other nonsense that has people divided.
If you’re curious how the idea of the time change came about, you can thank the genius Ben Franklin. He realized that he was wasting an hour of daylight staying in bed. He suggested the idea, and it eventually took hold when humans began industrializing the world. It’s now time to make Daylight Savings Time the time format of the land. More light at night! For a great breakdown of how Daylight Savings Time came about check out this article from the New York Times. Also, thank you to possibly the greatest American there ever was… Benjamin Franklin.
Top 7 Videos From Seeing U2 At The Las Vegas Sphere
As I wrote about a little bit in yesterday’s post, I made a quick trip out to the state of Nevada over the weekend to visit the Las Vegas Sphere. It was such a cool experience and one that would not be possible if it were not for the coordination of one individual, my dear friend, Kevin O’Donoghue.
So I could not start this post off in any other way other than sending a huge shoutout to K.O.D. for executing a fantastic trip to Sin City and everything U2. He made all of us Delco people feel special, including myself, Rob Vito, and Shane O.D.
Now back to the Las Vegas Sphere!
The Las Vegas Sphere was so incredible that I figured I would do another post on it to share every last piece of content I got from there with all the great WMGK listeners. Yesterday, I shared a bunch of photos from my experience – well, today it is all the videos I took from the U2 concert at the industry-changing venue.
The second you walk into the Sphere, you are immersed in a dome-like venue where every inch of the backdrop is a screen that can be used in infinite ways. Come to think of it, the place is still in its infancy stages, so I am sure the innovation will only grow from here for shows in the Sphere.
That said, it is unlike any other venue that has come before it, and U2 delivered incredible visuals for the show I saw over the weekend that would not have been possible without the technology of the Las Vegas Sphere.
Whether that be making it look like you are outside, floating through space, or just the clearest possible picture of the band, it really makes you feel like you are being transported to different locations just with the changing of the screens.
There is not a bad seat in the house, but don’t just take my word for it – look for yourself below!
