Thanks and Congrats to Bill Weston, the Best Boss I’ve Ever Had
When you have a good boss, work is just better. It doesn’t matter what the job is. For the last 16 years I’ve worked for a guy who I think is the best boss I’ve ever had in any job I’ve worked. I began my radio career in 2007 as an intern with the Preston and Steve Show at our sister station WMMR. Bill Weston was the Program Director. If you ask any of the staff there they’ll probably tell you the same nice things I’m going to say. It’s the same that you’ll get from the hosts at MGK too.
We’re talking about a guy who ran two of the top radio stations in the city. He was so good at it that the company made up an extra position and title for him, ‘Rock Captain’. I guess they wanted him to help all of the rock stations ‘sail to success’. They just wanted him in more places at once, and the 23 and me cloning hasn’t begun yet.

Without Bill my current radio career is probably completely different. It might not even be a radio career if not for him. 8 1/2 years ago I got let go from a show that was getting canceled. As anyone would do, I reached out to folks that I knew who might have some connections around the industry. Bill was one of them. It only took two weeks after getting the boot for me to be back in the same building, with the same company. All thanks to a guy I consider a the best boss I’ve ever had. Weston set me up with the John DeBella Show in 2015 and it’s been quite a ride at MGK ever since.

Bill’s ability to handle so many different people with large personalities is one of the reasons he’s a great boss. The way he talks to people including the newest interns (even if he has to be told their names 5-6 times), you always feel welcome and that you’re an important piece of the stations. For years he’s allowed his shows to use him as a foil or character, all while laughing it off or jabbing back. The constant ribbing, the over the top hand gesticulating while talking and the annoyance at his Buffalo Bills ruining his Thursday Night, Sundays and Monday Nights will be missed in the halls of WMGK and WMMR.
Tuesday, 12/19/23, will be the last show that Matt Cord and I do with Bill as our boss. It’s the end of an era here at the stations. As much as he deserved to ride his Harley(s) off into the sunset, his humor, ability to help his staff and his 1990’s satin Buffalo Bills jacket will be missed. Congratulations on your retirement Bill, and thanks for everything you did for us.

Who Are The 4 NFL Quarterbacks Kids Like Best?
This past weekend, I spent many hours with youth football players that range from age 10 – 12 years old. My son is a youth player, and I noticed at least six different NFL jerseys being worn by him and his teammates. This led me to wonder, who are kids’ favorite NFL quarterbacks today?
I was reminiscing about which athletes kids looked up to when I was 10 years-old. It was simple. Your favorite player was typically one of the stars on your favorite (usually hometown) team. Occasionally, a universal big name like Joe Montana would jump into the mix. However, many of the big Montana fans I knew growing up in New Jersey were then San Francisco 49ers fans. This was usually due to their admiration of Montana. I don’t see that to frequently be the case today.
It is not uncommon for kids to gravitate more towards specific players now as opposed to an overall team. There are two main reasons why I find this to be the modern way of fandom for youth today.
First is fantasy football. In fantasy football, you cheer for individual players. The team winning or losing doesn’t matter, the player on your team putting up big numbers does. It’s great for the NFL to have kids intently invested with so many games per week.
Second, players are digitally accessible. Meaning, you can engage differently with a player much more in our social media universe. Players share a glimpse into their lives and who they are off the field. The NFL as a league leaned into this a partnered with TikTok back in 2019 to give fans even more content.
Why Do Kids Select A Favorite Player?
It’s a question with many answers. 30 years ago I would have said, “I love Phil Simms because he is the New York Giants’ fearless leader.” I asked 30 local youth athletes this as a follow-up question upon them naming their favorite NFL quarterback. Often the answer was related to the Quarterback’s persona. Their style of play, their personality, and even their jersey number was mentioned.
So tallying up the 30 youth football players I asked, here are the kids’ favorite NFL quarterbacks that are active today.
