Keith Richards And Joan Jett Appear On Lou Reed Tribute Album

Keith Richards and Joan Jett are among an impressive lineup of artists who have recorded a tribute album honoring the songs of Lou Reed. The Power Of The Heart: A Tribute To Lou Reed features Richards covering the Velvet Underground classic "I'm Waiting For The Man." Listen to how great it is:

Joan Jett covers a Reed track from his breakthrough album Transformer, with "I'm So Free." What an excellent choice for her to perform! Rickie Lee Jones does her interpretation of "Walk On the Wild Side" (another perfect pairing). Rufus Wainwright gives another Transformer track, "Perfect Day" a shot. The Afghan Whigs have covered Reed's minor hit, "I Love You, Suzanne." Singer/songwriter Roseanne Cash chose a deep track from Lou's 90s output, with "Magician."

Seeing such a diverse group of artists covering Reed's songs speaks to the influence he had. Whether it was with The Velvet Underground, or his solo work, Lou Reed's music was honest, and spoke to so many people.

The album will be available digitally starting from 4/19, with a Record Store Day release to follow the next day. The Record Store vinyl release looks nice, pressed on "silver nugget" vinyl, and tucked in a silver laminated jacket and booklet. The CD/digital release will contain a bonus track, the title track of the compilation, performed by Brogan Bentley.
