St. Patty’s Day: Philadelphia Bar On Lis Of Top Irish Bars In America
St. Patrick’s Day is 12 days away. It falls on a weekend this year too. It’s a Sunday and you have to work the next day, but you are still off for some day drinking. There is nothing like a sunny St. Patrick’s Day at an Irish bar. Philadelphia has some really good spots for your St. Patty’s Day festivities. Of course, a sunny St. Patrick’s day leads to absolutely packed bars that depending on your age, you may not be looking for that. According to Travel Channel a Philadelphia bar makes it into their list of best Irish Bars in America.
There are a lot of really good bars throughout the city of Philadelphia. Both Irish and non-Irish, and if you’re in one drinking on St. Patrick’s Day then you’re probably doing just fine. If you are looking to step into an Irish bar in the city then you already know which one made the list of Travel Channel’s Best Irish Bars in America for St. Patty’s Day.
It’s McGillin’s Olde Ale House. The oldest continuously operating bar in the city is a mainstay when it comes to lists of great bars. It’s regularly packed on weekends and for big events, so you can assume the feeling of a sardine on Sunday, March 17th. It’s worth it if you’re looking for the right feel of a center city Philadelphia Irish bar on St. Patrick’s Day.
McGillan’s Gets most of the love from these national lists, but there are other really good spots in the city, like Moriarty’s. Another bar that’s been open for quite some time in Philly. A 70+ year old bar that gives you the feel of a pub overseas. I love the look of the actual bar. It’s got an old feel to it, and I’m not sure how to explain the design of the wood overhang at the actual bar. It just looks cool. Also, it’s got great wings. Yeah, not Irish, but who doesn’t want great wings?
Wherever you end up on St. Patrick’s Day enjoy yourself and be safe. Also hope for a warm, sunny day. It makes it so much better when it’s a great weekend day of celebrating outside with a few pints!
7 Philadelphia Irish Pubs To Check Out With Friends
The excellent selection of bars and restaurants in the city of Philadelphia includes its fair share of great Irish pubs.
According to lawnstarter.com via the US Census Bureau, Philadelphia has the second-highest percentage of Irish Americans of any major US city. Behind only Boston, Massachusetts.
Some Bars
McGillin’s Olde Ale House never fails to deliver a good party atmosphere. Especially when the Center City bar hosts big crowds on the days of major events in Philadelphia. Ask any local person in their 20s who’s ever been out in Center City. You’re bound to get the same response I did when I asked friends about their favorite Irish pubs.
The Black Taxi in Fairmount offers the perfect atmosphere with live music right by the bar. Its beautiful interior offers the right blend of a local Philly flavor and an Irish twist. I’ve never found a better place in Philadelphia to enjoy an intimate atmosphere with friends.
If you’re looking for a more quaint experience, Murph’s Bar is always trustworthy to save a comfortable seat at the bar and a cold drink in your hand right in the heart of Fishtown.
Paddy Whack’s has locations on South Street and in the Northeast, while Tir na nÓg and Con Murphy’s sit in the heart of Center City by the Ben Franklin Parkway.
Some Philadelphians prefer a spot where it’s always sunny like Mac’s Tavern on Market Street in Old City.
My friends and family in the Irish Catholic neighborhoods of Delaware County always know how to make St. Patrick’s Day a party at local pubs like the Crossbar and McSorley’s in Havertown, Sligo in Media, or Cawley’s in Upper Darby. Molly Maguire’s in Phoenixville and Kildare’s in West Chester are two of the best Chester County has to offer.
Local pubs deliver particularly exciting live music, Irish dancing, and other special events every year leading up to St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.
The city of Philadelphia boasts 7 of the best Irish pubs you’ll find in the United States.
Enjoy all of them on St. Paddy’s Day and any day throughout the year.
