This Could Be The Best Offense In Eagles History
For years, Eagles fans have suffered from a lack of weapons in the passing game. There were exceptions. Terrell Owens for 1 year. Desean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and LeSean McCoy for a few years. But more often than not, the Eagles’ weapons, especially their WRs, were severely lacking.
For most of his career, Brian Westbrook was the only notable weapon Donovan McNabb had. They won a Super Bowl with Alshon Jeffrey, Nelson Agholor, and an aged Torrey Smith.
Eagles Skill Players As Good As They Have Ever Been
But those days are in the past. The Eagles do not only have a great skill group, they might have the best in the NFL. AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert, and now Jahan Dotson. Brown, Smith, and Goedert were hear the past 2 seasons. But even in those years, there was a glaring weakness at slot WR.
Not anymore. Jahan Dotson fills the final hole they had among their skill players on offense. And when Tim McManus joined The Best Show Ever, he made a bold claim about this skill position group.
“I would say that this current skill position group is probably the best ever assembled in Philadelphia’s history. When you consider Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith. Now they added Jahan Dotson to go with Dallas Goedert. I mean that’s as good as it’s ever gotten here.
He might be right. Think back, who is better than this group at least on paper. Jackson, Maclin, and McCoy? This year is better. The 90s had some solid groups, but they were never close to as productive as this. T.O was great, but he was stuck playing with the likes of FredEx and Todd Pinkston.
This team, on paper, has better skill players than any other team in NFL history, and maybe any team in recent history.
Even Before Dotson They Had a Strong Case
They might have already been the best without Dotson. 2022 and 2023 are the only times in Eagles history two Eagles had at least 1000 yards receiving. But that 3rd WR left something to be desired in both years. Now they have everything. 2 great WRs, a solid 3rd option, a top 5 RB, and a TE poised to have the best year of his career with Kellen Moore in charge.
Tim McManus went on to discuss why Eagles fans should be excited about this offense.
“There’s certainly an outcome where they could be a top 3 offense, assuming that the front holds up. Obviously, the quarterback being a big part of that. And can he get back to that near MVP form. But I think there’s a lot to be excited about. It’s like a comet. Having AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in their prime at the same time on the same team. And I think that Smith’s going to take another jump this year. I think they have a chance to be absolutely the best wide receiver corps in the NFL.”
Again, it is hard to argue with Tim. Hurts doesn’t even need to be great, though obviously that is the goal. Be solid, be efficient, make the right throws, and this could be the be both the best offense in the NFL, and also the best offense in Eagles history.
