The 3 Best Commercials from Super Bowl 58
Another NFL season has come and gone. Andy Reid and the Chiefs have solidified their dynasty with back to back Super Bowl wins. Good for Andy. I really like him. For much of Super Bowl 58 the game was boring. A defensive battle, that just isn’t fun. So until the end of the game the only really entertaining stuff we had was the commercials. The hype for the commercials can be a little overblown and lead to what people may perceive as a down year for the spots. Not this year. There were some really good ones that ran during the game yesterday. I liked a lot, but I’ve got my top 3.
#3 Dunkin’: The Dunkings
Ben Affleck brings in his friends in a commercial full of heavy hitters. He’s done a really good job poking fun at himself in recent months with his Dunkin’ campaign. This one sees him performing with his music group, The Dunkings. Tom Brady, Matt Damon (who is hysterical in the commercial), J-Lo, Fat Joe and Jack Harlow. Ben diving headfirst into the whole Boston thing, accent and all, but Matt Damon steals the spotlight in this commercial.
#2 Paramount+: Paramount Mountain
They’ve done the Paramount Mountain thing before, but this one was so good. Different characters and people from shows you can find on Paramount+ are all trying the get up a mountain shelf. Patrick Stewart telling Drew Barrymore to shut her face is enough, but this spot had so much more. Thomas Lennon as his Lt. Jim Dangle character, Hey Arnold, Knuckles, Creed, Peppa Pig. Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa can’t throw the grappling hook high enough, probably because it’s cold weather and he’s a terrible QB in the cold. This commercial was so good, but falls about a millimeter short from the top spot.
#1 Etsy: Gift Mode
This is my favorite. It’s simple, but there is so much hilarious stuff buried in it that you may have missed during the game. First, the guy reacting to seeing the Statue of Liberty gift by saying “oh crap, that’s a really good gift.” It’s such a good reaction for normal people, who know they have to repay a gift. When their gift to France arrives, it’s a cheese board. The French are very excited and if you pay attention you can hear everyone continuing to excitedly yell, “oh la la”. They cut to the celebration in the town square and people are still shouting “oh la la”, but the crowd is tossing french baguettes in the air during their celebration. It’s just great. Take a look.
I hope to one day be excited about something the way the French in the commercial are excited about a “plateau du fromages!!”
