The Constant Coverage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is Overkill
I will start this by stating that I am a Taylor Swift fan. Not a Swiftie per se, but I enjoy her music. I know better than to insult that group of people! It’s like going after Beyonce, and getting attacked by the Bee Hive! You just don’t do it. Now that I’ve planted my flag on Taylor Swift Hill, I need to say that the constant coverage of Taylor and Travis Kelce is overkill.
I understand that she is the biggest star in the world right now and he’s the best tight end in the game (possibly ever) so it’s a story. We live in a world where page clicks and page views are king, and that sucks. The magazines and blogs wouldn’t be doing their job if they didn’t write about Taylor going out to dinner with Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ wife and Blake Lively, etc. But when the Chiefs score and it’s not even Kelce’s touchdown, there is no reason to cut to the Taylor Swift box to see their reaction. Cut to a diehard fan celebrating with other diehards, or show the agony of the other team’s fans. Hell, show a diehard who is rubbing it in another diehard’s face! At least we can all relate to those people!
I love Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Blake Lively. It’s cool that they’re at an NFL game together, and from all accounts, Ryan and Hugh are great with fans which makes me like them even more. Maybe I’m looking for more Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman friendship coverage. I’m here for that. I like Travis Kelce, except when he’s beating the Eagles in the Super Bowl. It’s only 2 weeks into this relationship, and the constant coverage of Taylor and Travis is already overkill.
Are the TV stations doing it because they realize that they have a whole new audience of Swiftie’s just trying to get a peek of her at the game? Is it a ratings thing, thinking we need to pop her on the screen every few minutes to give the viewers what they want? If it works out, that’s great because the Kelce family is wonderful, and deserves all good things. I just don’t want Taylor and Travis rammed down my throat all the time.
I guess this article is a long way to say give me more of the King and Queen of Philly. Jason and Kylie Kelce, two 30-some-year-olds with 3 kids playing zone coverage and just trying to survive until bedtime! Now that’s relatable! If you haven’t watched Kelce on Prime Video yet, you need to put it on your watchlist immediately. Just look at this guy! One of us! One of us!
Go Birds! Go Phillies!
