It Is Officially Time To Panic About The Eagles
You could maybe look past the blowout loss to the Niners as one bad week. Even the Cowboys game you could maybe contort yourself into making excuses for. But this had to be the week. This game, against the Seahawks using their backup QB, had to be the time for their get-right game. And for most of the game, it looked like they would escape with one of those ugly wins they were getting all season. But that magic can only go so far. And with a 17-13 lead late in the game, the Eagles’ luck finally ran out. James Bradberry got burnt deep, letting Jaxon Smith-Njigba get loose for a late go-ahead TD. And the Eagles lost 20-17.
There are no excuses that can be made this time. No silver lining. This is a deeply flawed team, on both sides of the ball. The offense may be overflowing with talent, but they have failed to get the job done. Just 17 points, against a defense missing two of its key players in the secondary. Hurts looked like an MVP just 4 weeks ago, but he was bad tonight. You could maybe forgive him given the illness he battled coming into the game. But he wasn’t good enough against the Niners or Cowboys either.
As for the defense, their age, and their lack of talent across the middle of the field has caught up to them. And even if the defense held its own for most of this game, when it really mattered, they let the Seahawks, with a backup QB, move down the field with way too much ease.
Technically they can still be the two seed. The Cowboys fell on their face too this week. But just making it to the playoffs is not the goal. This does not look like a team capable of winning anything in January or February. And right now, it doesn’t feel like they can do anything to change that.
