Doylestown Brewing Rides The Lager Line To Success
Doylestown Brewing Company’s path to success was forged by putting a modern twist on a Pennsylvania beer recipe that dated back to the 1800’s. The popularity of their R5 Lager enabled them to open their first brew pub in 2013. Since then they’ve been offering beer made with the finest of ingredients and brewing traditions.
You’ll find Doylestown Brewing Company at our upcoming MGK Locals Only Beer Festival on April 21 at Independence Seaport Museum. Tickets are on sale now and selling fast.
We’ll be highlighting each brewery participating in our event on wmgk.com with our Locals Only Spotlight feature. You’ll get a feel for what drives them to make delicious craft beer and most importantly what tasty offerings they’ll be serving up on April 21.
What They’re Serving
Each brewer will serve up a Flagship beer (a beer they’re well known for) & a Specialty/reserve beer. Attendees will get to vote for their favorite beer in each category.
Flagship Beer Category – R5 Lager
R5 Lager was crafted from an original PA recipe dating to the 1800’s with a modern twist. The sweet malt aroma and crisp flavor catapulted Doylestown Brewing Company, allowing Joe Modestine (owner) to open the doors to our first brew pub in 2013. The beer itself is named after the R5 regional rail line, which has been connecting Doylestown to the city of Philadelphia since 1931.
Specialty Beer Category – Union Street IPA
East Coast IPA, bold hops, citrus flavor.

After the success of our flagship beer, the R5 Lager, Doylestown Brewing Company opened its doors in 2013. Partnering up with head brewer Justin Low, we consistently rotate 10 delicious craft beers at one of our many locations – Hops Bar & Grill, The Still, and Doyle’s Down the Alley. Our mission is to treat our guests as if they are friends in our kitchen, by offering beer made with the finest of ingredients and brewing traditions.
Hospitality Is In Their Genes
Joe Modestine, President and owner of DBC, comes from a strong lineage of restauranteurs. In the 1940’s, the Modestine family owned the rights to Anheuser-Busch in the Northeastern region of the United States. Joe grew up working every dirty job there was in his family’s restaurant, and also spent countless years with a National restaurant cooperation that set the standard for casual dining experiences in America. Combining his family’s 70+ years of hard work and dedication led him to open Doylestown Brewing Company.
