Jalen Hurts Should be the NFL MVP
Jalen Hurts has the Eagles at 12-1 for the first time since 2004. Yesterday he took the Eagles into Met Life Stadium in New Jersey, home to the “New York” Giants and “New York” Jets, and absolutely laid the smack down on a division rival who is fighting for their playoff lives. There is a shot from yesterday when the Eagles are up 21-0 and the offense is joking on the sideline and there is Jalen, completely locked in waiting to go back out and bend the Giants defense over once more. In an NFC East game nobody is supposed to be up 21-0. That’s just not how any of these division games are supposed to go, especially when one of the teams is fighting for a playoff spot. Don’t tell that to Jalen Hurts.
Not only is Hurts putting up numbers that haven’t been done in Eagles franchise history, but he’s doing things that haven’t been done in NFL history. Two weeks ago against the Packers he became the first QB to throw for 300+ yards and rush for 150+ yards in the same game. If you made a preseason bet on Hurts to win the MVP then you are looking pretty good right now. His only real competition is Chief’s QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has his team at 10-3 and they have not been blowing the doors off of teams the way Hurt’s Eagles have. A month ago you could’ve made a very good, and probably correct case, that Mahomes was ahead of Hurts in the MVP race. That argument no longer holds water. Jalen Hurts has surpassed Mahomes, and is about to lap the field as the regular season heads towards it’s finish.
If you ask Jalen how he feels about possibly winning the MVP, he’ll probably give you a stock answer of, “well it’s nice, but I’m more concerned with bigger issues like winning a championship.” Remember, this is the guy who 8-0 said, “I’ve been 8-0 before and lost the national championship.”
The Eagles are 12-1, their offense looks almost unstoppable and Jalen Hurts throwing, rushing and leadership is the reason for this teams meteoric rise to the top of the NFL. Give this man the MVP already, but don’t do it until after you’ve handed him the Lombardi Trophy because obviously to him and every Eagles fan that is much more important!
Go Birds!
