John Brazer Stops By MGK To Promote A Phillies’ Red October
Sunday was not only the beginning of a new week but also the beginning of a new month. A month that Major League Baseball begins its playoffs. A month that will be taken over by a single color. A month where the Philadelphia Phillies hopefully advance to another World Series — a Red October. So it’s only right that our buddy, John Brazer, stopped by the studio yesterday!
John Brazer, the director of fun and games for the Phillies, stopped by to discuss the team and what is in store for another playoff run in Red October.
Hopefully, this becomes a weekly visit from John Brazer because that means the Phillies are still playing and advancing in the postseason!
The wild card series starts today as the Fightins begin their journey against the Miami Marlins. The first pitch will be at 8:08 p.m. as will the remaining two games of this series if needed.
Steve and I are actually both going to game two tomorrow night, and we are both hoping that will be the clincher that sends the Phillies to the NLDS to take on the Atlanta Braves for a second year in a row.
Either way, Thursday will be fun on The Matt Cord Show With Steve Vassalotti, so make sure you tune in from 6 a.m. through 10 a.m.
I am so excited for the playoffs that Pattyann and I actually rode our bikes to the ballpark yesterday afternoon and grabbed some cool Red October photos!
I can’t believe the postseason is here already! It feels like yesterday I broadcasted live from the stadium complex for the home opener back in April!
From April to Red October, it has been a fun season with a lot of memories already for the Phillies, so let’s finish this thing on top!
I know we are all hoping for another World Series!
Go Phils!

John Brazer just hanging in the WMGK studios before his appearance on The Matt Cord Show With Steve Vassalotti. He is definitely envisioning a World Series for the Phillies as he waits.
The Red October sign is officially up at Citizens Bank Park. Let's keep it there for a World Series run.
The pyro guys setting up in the parking lot. They will bring it inside for the game. Let's hope for a ton of fireworks all playoffs, both literally and metaphorically.
The ferris wheel outside of Citizens Bank Park. Gonna ride with the Phillies all through October.

The Phillies 26-Man Roster For The Playoffs- Wild Card Round
Red October is back! After a long, often stressful season, the Phillies are back in the postseason. Last night they beat the Pirates 3-2, to clinch not just a spot in the playoffs, but the fourth overall seed. Ensuring they will have Home Field Advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Citizens Bank Park will once again be rocking with the sound of nearly 43,000 rabid Phillies fans, for what will hopefully be another extended playoff room. Just ideally with a better ending this time.
The Phillies never made it easy on us, even in that final game. Like last season, they started off a bit of a mess. Trea Turner was having the worst season of his career. Bryce Harper was struggling to hit for power coming off Tommy John Surgery. Kyle Schwarber was hitting below the Mendoza Line. They were once again heading into June out of the playoff race.
But just like last year, things started to turn around. They went from a mediocre team in the first two months, to one of the best teams in baseball over the last 4. Eventually, Bryce Haper found his power and still finished with over 20. Trea Turner’s season turned around after a Standing Ovation and he was better than almost any hitter in baseball over the last two months. Kyle Schwarber is still under the Mendoza Line but has 45 HRs, 100 RBIs, 100 Runs, and 120 Walks. And even Aaron Nola is finishing the season on a bit of a roll.
It feels like they have that magic again. And unlike last season, they are not backing in. They took care of their business and clinched the 4 seeded with 5 more games to go. And they will get to start the playoffs at home, rather than in St.Louis.
